QUALMAT Kick off Meeting in Burkina Faso, local “political” kick off meetings in Burkina Faso, Ghana and Tanzania, follow up Political meeting a year after the start of the project in Heidelberg.

The kick off meeting was organized between 15-17.06.2009, followed by local “political” kick off meetings in Burkina Faso, Ghana and Tanzania. The first meeting delt with administrative and technical issues and prepared operational plans for the WP. Furthermore, it identified areas for which approval or authorization of political decision makers are needed. This meeting took place in Burkina Faso. The local (political) kick off meetings will be organized immediately or in a short time after the main meeting in the respective country.
Around a year after the start of the project one meeting will be organized in Heidelberg, inviting the county PIs and political key decision makers from our African partner countries.

Objectives of the Kick-off Meeting

1. To introduce all stakeholders to the Project administration regulations including regulations on financial administration and financial management.

2. To confirm the project goal, WPs objectives and deliverables for the whole lifespan of the project.

3. To plan activities for each WP and to establish an operational plan for the whole project period, but in particular for the first year.

4. To define the work packages team members, their responsibility and communication modalities

5. To identify all critical areas (ethical questions, human resource management regulations, labor legislation, performance based financial incentives, sanctions etc.) for which a general or specific authorization of political decision makers are needed.

6. To propose to all stakeholders a communication platform including the presentation of a QUALMAT website and their use by the stakeholders.

7. To establish a methodology on how to promote the projects and its objectives among the health staff and concerned communities.

8. To organize field visits for the Heidelberg team in Nouna (Burkina Faso) in order to make stakeholders familiar with the reality of the study sites (in particular with regard to IT-equipment, electrification, staff availability and motivation).
